Peace Bakery & Deli (Palestinian)

Since opening in 2014, Peace Bakery has been serving authentic Palestinian dishes made entirely from scratch. Founded by Nuha and Jihad Hammad and run with their five children, the bakery is as much a community hub as it is a restaurant. Customers return week after week for freshly baked pita, massive shawarma skewers, and other scratch-made favorites—always made with care and high-quality ingredients.

The family takes pride in their commitment to the neighborhood. Bread baked daily is not only served in the bakery but also donated to the local mosque’s food pantry, with hundreds of bags distributed each week. Beyond their own doors, the Hammads cater weddings, events, and celebrations across the city, creating connections through food. Son Ali says, “It’s fun meeting new people and becoming friends with regulars,” reflecting the welcoming atmosphere that keeps customers coming back.

In October 2025, the family expanded with their food truck, Salams, on St. Elmo Street in South Austin. The truck serves the same fresh, hand-prepared menu—including must-try beef and chicken shawarma—making it easy for more Austinites to enjoy their food and hospitality.

“Salam,” the Arabic word for peace, is more than a greeting—it embodies the bakery’s philosophy. Every dish, loaf, and interaction reflects the Hammads’ dedication to family, tradition, and community. At Peace Bakery, people don’t just come to eat—they come to gather, celebrate, and enjoy authentic Palestinian cuisine crafted with love.
